Godly men of the Word are to be courageous men. They know the presence of God in a real way, both in Bible study and prayer. They come to understand that trials sharpen our faith in God and in His promises. We actually learn how to thrive, not just survive when hard times come. Men of God build up each other’s hope. We can be more effective witnesses as we look to the fields for harvest.
Men’s Bible studies bring blessings to our homes. We see more clearly God’s hand at work in our families. Boundaries are not just honored, but they are enjoyed. Men conscientiously work to keep their marriages strong. Divorce is not part of God’s plan and intimacy can be realized with spiritual counsel. Our children can truly be brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
There is one last benefit of a men’s small group Bible study. God uses such times to enhance discernment. We have an enemy bent on destroying us, and those around us. Satan’s clever imitations are a little less deceptive when men grow closer to the Lord and to each other. We gain a support group unlike any other.
Over the years, I have encouraged many of the men in our church to come to a structured Bible study and grow a little more spiritual. Many times I have received notes of encouragement from wives (and a few parents) about the difference they have seen in lives that are dedicated to God.
I tell wives that the way to get a godly husband is to get him to first be a godly man. It all begins with God and pursuing a deeper relationship with Him for the purpose of knowing Him more fully. I think we make time for the things we want to do. Some men love to hunt. Some love to fish. Some love to go to a good sports game. What about considering a men’s Bible study for 12 weeks? Friends can make a difference in how we walk the Spirit-filled life.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. –Proverbs 27:17
