This January, just as every January for over 40 years at our church, is set aside as our Stewardship Emphasis month. This is the time of the year we place emphasis on the subject of our stewardship as individual believers and as members of our church.

Many of us think of stewardship only in the terms of the management of our money. Stewardship involves so much more than our money. It involves the management of all we have and all we are. It is the proper management of our time, talents and tools as well as our treasures.

Each of us is a steward, given by the Lord certain abilities, gifts, and possessions. The truth is that nothing actually belongs to us. It all belongs to the Lord. We are just managers in this life of what our God and Owner had entrusted to our care. When we are blessed with abilities, gifts, and possessions, we are not receiving what we deserve but only what our great God in His grace and compassion has granted to us.

Some of us are entrusted with much while others of us are entrusted with little. Whichever it may be, it all comes with a responsibility to be a faithful steward (I Corinthians 4:2). The temptation is for us to think that the blessing is in possessing while the true blessing is in managing the possessions. Remember the words of Jesus in Luke 12:15, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

Remember that each day and every possession, ability, and gift is an opportunity for stewardship. Decide that you will be a faithful steward and make each decision of stewardship for His glory. All that God gives us is not an end, but a means to the end that He will be exalted, magnified, and proclaimed to the earth as the one true God.

Please be watching your mailbox for important stewardship materials from our church this month. Also, be planning to be here for our annual Stewardship Banquet on Sunday, January 31, at 5:30 PM and be praying about what the Lord would have you to do in our church as a faithful steward.

See you Sunday!
