This week, we are approaching our national birthday, July 4.  With this day in mind, I thank the Lord for the freedoms that we know in our beloved homeland of America.  Our nation was founded upon Biblical and godly principles and our heritage is rich with good and godly people.

Patrick Henry declared, “It cannot be emphasized too strongly and too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ.”  Our first president, George Washington said, “It is impossible to govern the world without God.”  These men and many other patriots like them have given and will give their lives for this nation.

It behooves each one of us alive today to ask God to bring America back to its foundation.  Our nation is adrift.  We have murdered our unborn, set aside God’s moral orders, and confused the sexual distinction of men and women.  We must seek God in repentance.  We must confess our sins and seek His face.

The hope of America is in the Lord and His people.  We must be all He desires us to be and to do as He directs us in His Word.  I believe the answer is in God’s house.  The local churches of our land must get back to Bible preaching, personal soul winning, prayer meetings and holiness of life.

God’s Word still declares, “If my people, which are called by my name.”  We who are His people and are called by His name must lead our nation back to the Lord.  We must live godly lives.  We must seek to win our family members, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to Christ.  America’s only hope is for God’s people to truly be God’s people.  May each one of us renew our commitment to see America great once again.

Alexis de Tocqueville said that he came to America to find the key to our greatness, but he did not find it in our natural resources, educational institutions, or our government.  He said, “Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power.  America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

See you Sunday!
