Lesson #1 – Miracles ARE REAL! “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”– Jeremiah 32:27 Biological birth is a miracle, Adoption is a miracle. Creation of life in general is a miracle and whether a family is started naturally or by adoption, that IS a miracle. Miracles ARE real; not just something God did back in the Bible times, and they STILL happen today and we can still ask for a miracle today because all miracles come from God! God wants us to expect something great from Him!

Regarding our specific situation, through the Christian agency we went through, once we were finalized and approved for adoption as a couple, we wound up being just another waiting couple in their website portal which had 700 waiting couples on it. Logically speaking, we had a 1-in-700 chance of being chosen by a birth mother to adopt her infant baby. It was at this time that this verse in Proverbs became all too real to me: “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”– Proverbs 13:12

Have you ever hoped and hoped for something to happen for a long time, that never did? Do the math, what is 11 x 12? 132. 132 times. That’s the number of times God has said, “No” to my wife…..Eleven years times twelve months each year. But God said no all of those times…so that He could say YES the one time that truly mattered! Because, WE DID GET CHOSEN!!! And we’ve always said since day one of meeting Jozef’s birth mother, “We don’t believe that you chose us…we believe that God chose us, through you.”

Lesson #2 – Nothing in your life is wasted, everything in your life has a purpose, and God cares about the details. “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.”– Proverbs 16:9  Our agency gave us the notes from their initial meeting with our baby’s birth mother, and when they asked her WHY she chose us as a couple, here was her response: our ethnicities matched theirs, our faith as Christians, our missions trips and heart for missions, and that she wanted her baby to have a committed father, since her own father left home in her teenage years.

All these years we’ve been traveling to Panama, Cambodia, Laos, Tijuana, Philippines, Panama, and China…hoping God might miraculously open up a private adoption opportunity for us with one of these hundreds of beautiful children we saw, He was directly using all of those trips in our lives to be what would convince a birth mother one day to bless us with HER child. Nothing in your life that you go through is ever wasted by God. He will use it for your good or for someone else’s one day.

We initially said we wanted a baby within our ethnicities. We later changed our profile in late December early January after our church’s Angel Tree ministry during early Christmas time. That was right before our baby’s birth mother walked into our agency’s branch down there in South Carolina. God knew, and God worked and moved in our hearts. We changed our profile to allow for ALL ethnicities and instead allow ALL of the choice up to Him and us not placing any limitations on Him so far as the ethnicity of our baby would be concerned. And guess what He blessed us with? Our baby’s birth mother has Caucasian, Syrian, Lebanese, and Belgian in her ethnicity; the birth father has African American, Japanese, and Pacific Islander (Rota) in his. How awesome to have a child given to you with that much ethnic diversity!

Lesson #3 – Answered Prayer is also sometimes a process, and not just a one-time event, and how do you truly KNOW that God even heard your request? “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.”– Isaiah 65:24  “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” – I John 5:14-15“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”– John 15:7  Only God Himself knows how many times I’ve prayed over the past thirteen years now, “God, please let us have a baby, please let Synthavanh get pregnant, please give us our own child.” Even after we had initially started the adoption process, but now I realize that I was always praying ONLY for the end result I was longing for, but not any of my final request’s prerequisites. There is so much more that we can pray to God for, if we simply sit down and think on all that has to happen in order for us to receive the final blessing, request, or answer to pray that our heart truly desires. God wants to hear from us, and He wants us to trust and believe in Him that He can and will deliver.

I have heard Preacher Cox say over the years, “What God orders, He always pays for.”  I’d been praying all along throughout our adoption process, “God, please don’t let us put a penny of all adoption these fees on credit.” God allowed exactly that, and provided for 100% of all of the fees of adopting baby Jozef, precisely one month after he was born. Jozef was born on JUly 13, 2017, and by August 13 He had supplied every single penny of the funds we needed to cover the entire cost of adoption. PRAISE THE LORD! “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

I don’t what you might be going through today in your life, but I can promise you all that WHATEVER you are going through today, and whatever you will one day BE going through, whatever you ARE praying and asking God for today, and whatever you one day will be begging God for in fervent prayer…GOD KNOWS, GOD CARES, GOD HAS HEARD YOU, AND GOD IS WORKING IN YOUR SPECIFIC SITUATION AND HIS HAND IS MOVING WHETHER YOU SEE ANY PHYSICAL EVIDENCE OF IT OR NOT! Continue trusting in Him, don’t stop praying, and have complete and total faith in the belief that if God has not revealed the end result of your request already…that he IS answerING your request behind the scenes in ways that you are not able to see…yet.
