Watching the daily news can be depressing.  There is so much bad that is reported.  What about the good?  Hasn’t something happened today that’s good?  I personally can’t watch but so much news.  Headlines of COVID-19, riots, murders, and kidnappings all lay heavy on my heart.

Why are things so bad in the world?  What are we going to do?  When will it all come to an end? The Bible is a book of timeless instruction.  It applies to every situation.  The Bible tells us that “Everything’s Alright in My Father’s House” as the song goes.  I John 4:5 explains it well, “Therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.”  Isn’t that what is happening?  The world speaks and the people of the world react.  I John 4:6 explains how we as Christians feel today.  “We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”  You and I as Christians understand what the world does not understand and cannot understand.  We understand that the spirit of truth is different from the spirit of error.  That is not putting down anyone.  It’s simply the fact that a Christian has a perspective that non Christians do not and cannot have.

What are we to do?

  1. Love all people.  How will racism ever stop?  Through the love of God.  I John 4:7 “Love one another: for love is of God.”  There we have it.  Isn’t that a simple answer to a timely situation in the world today? You love me and I love you.  It’s as simple as that!
  2. Share the gospel with all people.  How can blatant sins such as murder, kidnapping, riots, and such be stopped?  Share the gospel with all people so that they can have the opportunity to be saved.  I John 4:9 states, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world that we might live through him.”  When people accept the gospel and are saved it takes care of the trouble going on in this world.
  3. Be a steady Christian. Grow spiritually through your trial.  We are facing some serious trials in the day that we live.  We have the choice to grow spiritually through the trials or to allow the world to saturate us with worldly thoughts and ways.  I John 4:12 “No man hath seen God at any time.  If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.”  So, it’s up to me and it’s up to you.  What choice will we make?  Be steady as a Christian.  Keep doing the next right thing.  Keep having the right spirit.  Keep passing out gospel tracts.  Keep reading your Bible.  This is how our Christian love and faith is perfected.  As we grow as a Christian we are convicted of sin in our lives. We are never sinless but we do sin less.

The word “perfected” doesn’t mean that you or I will reach the state of perfection.  It means that our spiritual roots will become more grounded and we will be even more planted.  Our faith will be stronger.  We will be effective in this world as we are consistent in our godly and holy living.

Take the test of spiritual growth?

  1. Are you fearful?  If you are, your faith is not growing.  I John 4:18  “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
  2. Do you hate anyone?  Hatred is a sign of not growing spiritually.  I John 4:20 “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”

Don’t think about others.  Think about yourself.  Are you growing spiritually?  Grow spiritually and remember that “Everything’s alright in my Father’s house where there’s joy, joy, joy!”
