In our World Missions Conference two weeks ago, our missionary Keith Drinkard said, “The least amount of faith is greater than the greatest amount of difficulty that you will face today.” We all know of the Bible verses where Jesus tells His disciples in Luke 17:6, “If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.” or in Matthew 17:20, “Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

In Jesus’ day, the mustard seed was the smallest seed planted. What Jesus was trying to get across to His disciples was not about their AMOUNT of faith though, but rather the OBJECT their faith is placed in…the hands of Almighty God. Whether you and I have a great amount of faith, or a little faith, is nowhere near as important to Jesus as the Object of our faith is. Is your faith in yourself, your family, your parents, your pastor or church, your job or career, your salary? What exactly is it that you have placed your faith IN today?

Two other attributes of the mustard seed are that despite its size, it is also one of the most concentrated and potent seeds of all. It doesn’t take but one or two mustard seeds to flavor a large pot of whatever you might be cooking or preparing. The other interesting fact is that as small as the mustard seed starts out, it can grow into one of the largest, most massive trees later on in its life if cared for properly. I think the main point that Jesus was trying to make to His disciples that day was simply that the tiniest amount of faith placed in God is greater than the largest amount of faith placed in anything else.

Another missionary pastor Willie Byrd said, “Little is much, when God is in it, yes, but, little is much when God HAS it. Little remains little until it’s placed INTO the hands of God.” There is absolutely nothing that you can go through today that your faith cannot carry you through…IF…your faith is in the Almighty capable hands of Creator God. Where is YOUR faith today, and WHO has it?
