Hidden Treasures of God

Dwight Ausley   -

When my father passed away, my sisters and I faced the arduous task of going through all of our parents’ personal belongings. We literally sorted through decades of items my parents had kept.

Sometimes you might be surprised at what you find. That’s what one family in Lansing, Michigan, found out first hand recently.

In the process of cleaning out a family member’s home, Melony Atwood and her sister found what they believed was a live ammunition round, and they called the Lansing Police Department.

Atwood says they could not believe what they had found. While rummaging through a closet, they found what appeared to be a torpedo. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad team then came in and conducted an X-ray and concluded that the round of ammunition was not live.

Upon further inspection, the bomb squad figured out that this was a WWI round that had a hidden treasure of coins and bills ranging from the 1800’s-1900’s.

The torpedo had been apparently cleaned out, and it was stuffed with currency and lots of coins. Some of the coins were from the late 1800s, and some of the bills were from the 1920s. The bomb squad took the torpedo, and the treasure was left for the family.

Sometimes the things we fear and avoid the most are the things to which we really need to draw close. At first glance, we steer clear; but, in reality, they are filled with God’s blessings. We avoid obeying God because we are afraid. The task just seems too difficult. There simply seems to be no way that we could do what the Bible says;  but if we would only draw close, we would find a treasure trove of blessings.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says:

And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

Be obedient to God’s Word. Cling to His promises. Trust Him in all things, and the Lord promises that He will bless us. Do we doubt and run; or do we draw near, obey, and enjoy what the Lord has for us? If you will be obedient, you will be amazed at His endless supply. God wants you to discover all that He has for you. I want every blessing that God intends for me to enjoy. Wouldn’t it be a shame if I kept them in a closet and never saw firsthand what God could have done in my life?
